The jihadist rebel group “Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham” reportedly downed a Russian reconnaissance drone in the northern Latakia countryside on Thursday after it was seen circling their positions near the Turkish border.

Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham allegedly shot down the Orlan-10 reconnaissance drone with an anti-aircraft machine gun; however, Russian military advisers deny this claim.

According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent, Russian military advisers claimed that the reconnaissance drone experienced technical problems before it crashed near the Turkish border.

These military advisers claimed that the images of the wreckage prove that the drone was not shot down because there are no bullet holes.
