OMEGA celebrated its De Ville Butterfly wristwatches with its brand ambassador Nicole Kidman at a high-profile event on Thursday, 2 October.The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul was elaborately decorated for the launch where the Oscar-winning actress was joined by Swiss singer/songwriter Bastian Baker and OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart.
Urquhart introduced Nicole Kidman, who has been an OMEGA brand ambassador since 2005. The actress was warmly greeted by the audience when she took to the stage to chat about her relationship with OMEGA, her reaction to the De Ville Butterfly and her visit to Seoul. After an elaborate dinner, the evening's master of ceremonies Mark Juh announced a surprise guest, singer/songwriter Bastian Baker, who is one of OMEGA's newest brand ambassadors, and performed an intimate concert.
The event was attended by Chatham Luxury, distributors of the Omega Brand in Sri Lanka. During a conversation withOMEGA president Stephen Urquhart at the press briefing, they discussed his thoughts on the potential in the South Asian market. “OMEGA has invested heavily in South Asian markets, however the key difference between South Asia and a market like China is the retail infrastructure, the consumers are definitely there, but there is still a need for more development in terms of infrastructure. Nevertheless we are certain that in South Asia there is tremendous potential,” Urquhart said.
He proceeded to state that what OMEGA, who have a presence in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh, have understood the unique psychographics of the consumers themselves and the brand’s strategies need to be adapted to fit the consumers in the region and their own priorities. “Down the road though I am sure the whole sub-continent will erupt one day into a big market,” he added.
Graced with a delicate butterfly design, the new OMEGA De Ville Prestige “Butterfly” is inspired by the beauty found in nature and is an enchanting addition to the Prestige collection. The exquisite butterfly motif on the dial is inspired by Asian popular culture, which associates the delicate being with love and longevity.
The choice of an Asian country as the host for such a high profile event, along with the Asian inspired themes embodied in the watch is not doubt an indication of OMEGA’s long term commitment to and strong presence in this region.
