ASEAN Missions Celebrated 57th ASEAN Day 2024 in Colombo

The ASEAN Diplomatic Missions in Sri Lanka, namely the Embassy of Indonesia, the High Commission of Malaysia, the Embassy of Myanmar, the Embassy of Thailand, and the Embassy of Vietnam, celebrated the 57th ASEAN Day at the Embassy of Indonesia, in Colombo, on 13/8/2024. “The event underscored the unity and shared aspirations of ASEAN nations, reaffirming their commitment to regional cooperation and solidarity” disclosed Heru Prayitno of the Embassy of Indonesia.

The celebration, hosted by the Embassy of Indonesia, brought together the diplomatic representatives of ASEAN member states, including Her Excellency Dewi Gustina Tobing, Ambassador of Indonesia; His Excellency Badli Hisham Adam, High Commissioner of Malaysia; Her Excellency Marlar Than Htaik, Ambassador of Myanmar; His Excellency Paitoon Mahapannaporn, Ambassador of Thailand; and Her Excellency Trinh Thi Tam, Ambassador of Vietnam.

The event commenced with welcoming remarks by the host, Her Excellency Dewi Gustina Tobing, who highlighted the importance of ASEAN Day in fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation among the member states. In their speeches, the Ambassadors and High commissioners reiterated the significance of ASEAN as a regional stability and development pillar.

In the meantime, His Excellency Badli Hisham Adam, High Commissioner of Malaysia, introduced Malaysia's upcoming Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025, noting the country's dedication to strengthening regional connectivity, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing ASEAN's resilience in the face of global challenges.

The theme for this year's celebration, "Connected & Resilient Community," was echoed throughout the event, which included the ASEAN Anthem, a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, and various cultural activities and games, reflecting the shared heritage and strong ties within the ASEAN family. The friendly atmosphere in the celebration showed the essence of ASEAN, a community that thrives on mutual support, understanding, and a collective spirit.

The ASEAN Missions in Sri Lanka remain committed to furthering the principles of peace, stability, and mutual prosperity in the region. Today's celebration is a testament to the enduring bonds that unite the ASEAN community and its ongoing efforts to achieve a harmonious and progressive Southeast Asia.
