Changes and Traditions: S H Sarath Exhibition at Siam Nivasa

An exhibition of paintings and drawings by renowned artist, Kalasoori S H Sarath will be held at Siam Nivasa, the premises of the Royal Thai Embassy, at No. 43, C W W Kannangara Mawatha (formerly Alexandra Place) from the 23rd May to 4th July, 2023. Widely known for social satire in his creative work, in this collection Sarath invites viewers to have a conversation on everyday life and environment through his paintings and pen and ink drawings.

The exhibition also captures Sarath’s pathway as an artist over a period of five decades and his exploration with different themes and styles of painting, whilst also drawing on traditional motifs and symbols to crystalize his critiques and artistic expressions. His exploration with tradition and modernity has also brought him recognition as an ‘artist who uses tradition to move away from tradition.’

The exhibition, open to the public for six weeks provides an opportunity for students of art as well as art lovers to spend time leisurely at the spacious gallery of Siam Nivasa and to enjoy and study these artworks.

In association with S H Sarath’s exhibition, a series of events on art appreciation are planned to be held at Siam Nivasa and are open to the public free of charge. These weekly events include workshops, presentation and conversations on techniques of art and creative composition, creative space for children, enjoying art and getting to know the artist in person. The events are open to all and are to be organized on Sundays (28th May, and on 4th 11th, 18th and 25th of June) from approximately 10AM to 1.30PM. Specific details of the events will be communicated through formal and social media platforms and are also accessible on the website of the Royal Thai Embassy in Sri Lanka and Instagram Page: thaiembassysrilanka.
