Shanghai General Motors Recall Over Safety Belt Defects

Shanghai General Motors Co. will recall 32,001 vehicles on the Chinese mainland over problems with safety belts, the country's quality watchdog said on Saturday.

The recall involves Buick Enclave models manufactured between April 25, 2012 and April 16, 2013, according the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

Due to problems with the safety belt pretensioners, safety belts in the front seats may not function properly in a head-on crash, according to the administration.

The producer will replace the faulty parts free of charge to eliminate the risks.

The recall will start on Sept. 30.
