The Government has decided to grant debt relief for bank loans obtained by the people in flood affected areas. A high level discussion in this regard was held recently at Temple Trees.
Under the first phase, it has been decided to allocate Rs. 2 billion to provide as debt relief. A circular regarding this matter to be issued in the near future.
Over 521 thousand people have been affected at present. 337 welfare centres have been set up and about 75 thousand persons have been housed in them. 412 houses have been totally damaged and 4266 houses have been partially destroyed. Many areas in Galle, Ratnapura, Kegalle Kalutara, Matara districts are still prone landslides.
