Cabinet spokesman and Minister Vijitha Herath urged the public to apply for passports at the Immigration & Emigration Department only for urgent needs.

During a media briefing, he said that those requiring passports for non-urgent purposes can afford to wait, as the Department has sufficient stock available.

Currently, the Department is processing approximately 1,600 passports daily to address the rising demand.
