The new government has neither printed new currency notes nor taken loans from foreign institutions, Cabinet Spokesperson Vijitha Herath said today (29).
Responding to a journalist's question at today’s Cabinet media briefing, Herath explained: “Generally, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka issues treasury bills and bonds proportionally as they mature. This is a routine, daily process.”
“As for currency printing, no new notes have been produced, and it isn’t possible to do so. We’d like to see a currency note with the new President’s signature, but nothing of the sort has been issued. It’s completely fake news,” Herath said.
