The Alliance for People's Struggle has demanded a fresh investigation into what it calls a passport scandal, questioning the validity of claims made by Epic Lanka regarding an agreement with the Department of Emigration and Immigration for passport printing.
At a press conference, candidate Pubudu Jayagoda said that the Department has denied Epic Lanka's assertion about the agreement, highlighting the need for clarity. Epic Lanka claims it holds rights to print passports and has quoted a price of $1.45 per passport, contingent on a contract with Just in Time Group, which submitted the lowest bid.
Pubudu said that delays in passport issuance have been linked to a court case filed by Epic Lanka and warned that the government could lose around one million dollars if a payment decision favors Epic Lanka. He also mentioned a court order to form a committee to evaluate the payment issue and alleged that Epic Lanka was involved in a data scam at the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation.
