President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reiterated his commitment to abolish the perks and benefits granted to former heads of state. Speaking at an election rally in Baddegama, Galle, he said that it is not the responsibility of the public to support former presidents.
He highlighted that previous administrations had secured benefits through circulars, parliamentary acts, and constitutional provisions. He said, "We are exploring the possibility of amending these circulars and the Act."
Criticizing the extensive security and luxury provisions sought by former presidents, including requests for 163 security personnel and multiple luxury vehicles, he affirmed, "We will do away with all the facilities. Politics is a service to people."
