Gampaha District UNP Parliamentarian Ruwan Wijewardene has offered former Parliamentarian Harin Fernando then top post of the UNP youth wing.

Wijewardene has offered to resign from the top post of the UNP youth wing, paving the way for Fernando to become the Chairman.Party sources said that it was a voluntary move to show Wijewardene's respect for the sacrifices made by Fernando on behalf of the party. 

There was a strong opinion among the rank and file of the UNP that Fernando should be offred a key position in the party for the sacrifices he made at the Uva Provincial Council election. Fernando sacrificed his Parliamentary seat to become the Chief Ministerial candidate of the UNP.

The matter would be taken up at the UNP Working Committee meeting today, a senior spokesman of the party told Asian Mirror.

The UNP Working Committee will meet this evening ‘Sirikotha’ party headquarters to discuss future strategies in the aftermath of the Uva Provincial Council election. Sajith Premadasa’s appointment as the Deputy Leader of the party and the abolition of UNP Leadership Council will also be discussed at the Working Committee meeting.
