Campaign for Free and Fair Elections' (CaFFE) has condemned the statement made by Uva Province DIG Roshan Fernando on ‘Unmarked vehicles’ that are appearing in the province from time to time.
Commenting on a complaint made by the CaFFE, Roshan Fernando has said that unmarked vehicles are not being deployed for electioneering in Uva.
Releasing a statement to media CaFFE said that they are deeply insulted by the Uva DIG’s statement and that they have never failed to report any election law violations prior to the election.
“CaFFE has already complained about the unmarked vehicle used in Badulla to the Department of Elections and the Assistant Elections Commissioner of Badulla relayed the message to SSP - Bandarawela on September 03, 2014”, they said.
However CaFFE reported that the same vehicle was parked near the Passara Ground, Lunugala, Passara Road yesterday. CaFFE observers have photographed the vehicle on Badulla town on September 08. The Nissan cab (C2014-2015,) was parked in front of Moneragala Police Station and parked behind it is the official Jeep of the OIC.
United National Party (UNP) MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara has informed CaFFE today (10) that an unmarked jeep was parked in front of Sirigala Hospital, Moneragala around 10.48 am.
The footage released by CaFFE on unmarked vehicles is posted below.
