The Chinese President Xi Jinping is to visit Sri Lanka in mid-September. Media reports have said that the External Affairs Ministry is to finalize the itinerary of the Chinese President tomorrow with the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.
Speculation was high on an impending visit by the President of China to Sri Lanka as a part of a South Asian tour. It was earlier said that Xi will be visiting India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in August. However, the tour did not materialize at that time.
Reports are still not clear as to which other Chinese officials will accompany President Xi in his Sri Lankan visit.
Chinese President will attend the commissioning of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant during his stay in the country.
President Xi will be the most high profile foreign dignitary scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka in September. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Spanish Foreign Minister Manuel Garcia Marfil and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla are also expected in the country early September.
Xi Jinping will be the first ever Head of State of china to visit Sri Lanka.
