Funds provided by the Indian Government will be used to build a new cultural centre and a new municipal building in Jaffna.
The Jaffna Mayoress Yogeswari Patkunarajah said that the approval for the two projects has been given by the cabinet.
The estimated cost for the municipal building will be Rs. 780 million, while the cost for the new cultural centre will be Rs. 1030 million.
She said the 12 storey cultural centre would be constructed on the land that once had an open air theatre.
This will be another step in the development process going on in Sri Lanka under the patronage of India. Among this the historic trian from Colombo to Jaffna, Yal Devi is also to be restored under Indian patronage after the reconstruction of the railway concludes in mid October.
