UNP Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya has stated that he is completely in agreement to give Sajith Premadasa “due recognition” in the party in order to get his full support in the Uva Provincial Council Election.

He was responding to media reports claiming that Premadasa had demanded the deputy leadership of the party in order to support it in the Uva polls.

Jayasuriya has also mentioned that the Leadership Council has never got such a request from Sajith Premadasa. He also mentioned that he had invited Premadasa to participate in the Leadership Council on several occasions.

Furthermore, Jayasuriya has reminded that when he was appointed as the Chairman he had openly invited all who had left or distanced themselves from the party to join forces with the party to defeat the Rajapaksa regime. He has also reiterated that UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has recently made the same invitation.

Jayasuriya believes that there should be a proper mechanism to reintegrate party members who had been subjected to disciplinary action on various reasons. However, the party should be supreme than any individual’s agenda, he stressed.
