Professor Colvin Gunaratne has resigned from the Chairmanship of the Sri Lanka Medical Council. 

Asian Mirror learns that Gunaratne has resigned with effect from July 31, 2018. 

He was appointed in October, last year, despite opposition from some sections of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA).

The circumstances leading to Gunaratne's resignation are still unknown.
