A French national was yesterday sentenced to 30 months in jail for conspiring to act as a flights' check-in facilitator for other people.
The District Court heard that the 32-year-old man had been involved in forgery activities in November last year - when a Sri Lankan man used a forged French passport and boarding pass bearing the name of the defendant to board a flight.
The passport was later found to be fake and immigration officials identified the French man as being behind the forgery.
The man pleaded guilty to the charges.
He admitted that he had received money and free air-tickets from a middleman for obtaining boarding passes and giving them to other travelers. (With inputs from the Standard)
