Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the Tourist-friendly Tuk Tuk service launched by the government yesterday was a 'guarantee' on the safety of tourists visiting Sri Lanka.
"It is the duty of all Tuk drivers involved in the programme to protect this guarantee," the Prime Minister said, addressing the launching event of the Tourist-friendly Tuk Tuk service at Galle Face Green yesterday.
"Under this programme, over 700 drivers have been trained and accredited by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority," the Prime Minister added.
"Tourism industry," he said, "is one of the main sectors where we will generate employment."
The Prime Minister also encouraged people to reap benefits of the booming tourism industry by investing in it.
"If you can give a room of our own house on short-term rent, it will generate additional income and employment," the Prime Minister said.
He also said that everyone involved in the tourism sector should work towards offering a high-quality service to foreigners visiting Sri Lanka.
