An arrest warrant was issued on Sudharma Nethicumara, wife of Salaka Chief Gamini Nethicumara, over an alleged financial scandal.
When the case was taken for hearing before Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage this morning, Sudharma Nethicumara was not present in the court.
She has been charged for defrauding a businessman and committing a breach of trust over a financial transaction of Rs. 5 million.
Her name was widely reported in media when her husband, Gamini Nethicumara, publicly claimed that she was having an extra-marital affair with former Director General of the Media Centre for National Security Lakshman Hulugalla. After the story broke out, Hulugalla, according to media, attempted to commit suicide on two occasions. He was later assigned to a diplomatic posting in Australia.
However, Sudharma Nethicumara, speaking to media a few months after the controversy said Hulugalla was guilt-free and there was no such extra-marital affair as claimed by her husband.
