Airstrikes Pound ISIS At Tabqa Airbase Ahead Of Planned Syrian Army Offensive

Tens of airstrikes struck the ISIS-held city of Tabqa as well as Tabqa Airbase yesterday as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continues its advances in western Raqqa.

A military source said a couple of ISIS checkpoints had been destroyed by joint Russian and Syrian airstrikes at the road between Tabqa Airbase and the Sfaiyeh crossroad; the latter junction was liberated earlier today by government forces.

Furthermore, three ISIS vehicles manned with machine guns were destroyed on the southern outskirts of Tabqa city.

Currently, the Syrian Armed Forces – spearheaded by the Desert Hawks Brigade – are less than 20 kilometers from Tabqa Airbase and approximately 60 kilometers from Raqqa city.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State is pulling out fighters from frontlines in northern Aleppo and eastern Homs to reinforce Raqqa, the self-declared capital of the ISIS caliphate.
