Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, currently lodged in Pune’s high-security Yerawada Central Prison, will walk out of jail on February 27. The Maharashtra government has cleared a proposal for remission of his sentence.
Dutt is being given remission as per the jail manual after clearance from the Home department, a senior official said.
Minister for State (Home) Ranjit Patil signed the file allowing Dutt’s release, without penalising him for reporting late from his furlough in January 2015.
The 56-year-old actor is serving his five-year jail term after conviction in the 1993 bomb blasts case.
He was convicted in 2007 by a special TADA court under the Arms Act for illegal possession of arms and sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment.
The actor had spent 18 months in jail in 1996 after his arrest.
