Chinese Farmer Builds 35m-Long Airplane Model As Restaurant

December 28, 2015

A 61-year-old farmer in central China's Henan Province has built a near life-size aircraft model resembling Boeing's signature 737 jetliner with over 150,000 yuan (23,160 U.S. dollars), in hope to lure more customers for his family restaurant business.

Living in a small landlocked village in Henan, Wang Lanqun has never been to school. However, with a profound interest in machinery, he has accomplished what might impress some most experienced engineers.

After a meticulous study of photos of jetliners, Wang purchased steel and started to build his own plane in the end of 2014. It took him a year to finish the work on the giant aircraft model that measures 35 meters high, 38 meters wide and 11.5 meters high.

Chinese farmers appeared to be deeply captivated by the charm of flying machines. There have been constant media reports of poor, under-educated rural residents attempting to fly home-made aircraft in various parts of China over the past decade.

Unlike those plane fanatics, Wang never intends to fly the machine. His family has been running a restaurant in the village, and Wang believes an "airplane restaurant" will definitely draw more clients.
