An attempted car bombing has occurred at an army barracks in Belgium, local media report. Gunfire was heard after a car tried to ram the installation. The masked assailant is now reportedly on the run.
Belgian media are reporting that a car tried to ram the main gate at the Flawinne base in Belgium. Early reports indicate that the base troops guarding the entrance fired on the vehicle immediately. But the attacker managed to get out and escape.
Explosives were later found in the vehicle.
The motive for the attack is still unclear.
No one was injured in the attempted attack.
The base, located near the city of Namur, is home to 650 soldiers with the 2nd Batallion Para-Commando, a light infantry unit.
