Swedish crime writer Henning Mankell, best known for novels featuring Inspector Kurt Wallander, died at the age of 67.
Born in 1948, Mankell started writing fiction in the 1970s. His first book featuring Kurt Wallander appeared in 1991.
Mankell divided his time in Sweden and Mozambique and was a known supporter of the Palestine cause.
He has won many awards, including the Swedish Crime Writers' Academy, Best Swedish Crime Novel Award in 1991 and 1995.
He announced in 2014 that he had been diagnosed with cancer.
