International Quiz Association (IQA), the world’s premiere Quiz organization, will be conducting its annual World Quizzing Championships on Saturday 06 June 2015.

IQA Sri Lanka chapter is conducting this Quiz in Colombo for the 10th year running , once again giving the Sri Lankan quiz enthusiasts the opportunity to compete in this prestigious world event.

World Quizzing Championships (WQC) is an individual written quiz that is organized around the globe at almost the same time. The quiz consists of 240 questions, to be answered in a maximum allowed time of 120 minutes. The questions are divided over 8 categories of 30 questions each. The eight categories broadly cover areas of history, Media, World, Lifestyle, Entertainment, Culture, Sports, and Sciences.

Nearly 2,000 people take part in the World Quizzing Championships each year and quizzers from over 30 countries compete in a battle of the brains.

Freelance journalist and University lecturer Lathike Niriella emerged as the top Sri Lankan Quiz player in last year's World Quizzing Championships where most of the top Quiz players of Sri Lanka battled hard for improved rankings both locally and globally.

Haren Fernando, was placed 2nd best in Sri Lanka and Dilantha Gunawardena was the third placed whilst Gayani Minuwanpitiya emerged as the top female Quizzer in Sri Lanka.

According to Ruwan Senanayake, Sri Lanka representative of the IQA, enthusiastic Sri Lankan quizzers will compete against top contestants from countries such as U.K, U.S.A, Belgium, India, Estonia, Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia, Finland, Norway, Croatia, France, Latvia, The Philippines,  Germany and Australia. More than 40 countries are expected to compete at the WQC this year.

The Quiz will be organized by the IQA Sri Lanka branch and will be open to all Sri Lankan nationals over 16 years of age, and will be conducted in English.  

The venue for the World Quizzing Championships 2015 in Sri Lanka will be the Distance Learning Centre , 28/10 Malalasekera Mawatha , Colombo 07 and the quiz will be held from 4.00 p.m -7.00 p.m. on Saturday 06th June 2015
